Continuing Professional Development

Continuing Professional Development

As with many professions, in order to ensure that you provide a safe and effective service, it is important to maintain your knowledge and skills, and to develop them in line with new research, understanding and practices.
REPs Ireland uses a credit based system to record and document this ongoing learning and development.
The purpose of CPD and the recording of it by REPs Ireland is to allow exercise professionals to gain the recognition for the ongoing learning, and also to provide a minimum standard for the quality and level of ongoing training and education that is available.
REPs Ireland are here to support exercise professionals in this ongoing development, and will seek to have as much REPs Ireland endorsed CPD available, so that exercise professionals have as wide a range of options to access appropriate CPD.
REPs Ireland will welcome approaches from all providers of CPD to gain credits, once that CPD meets minimum standards and requirements, as appropriate to exercise professionals.
As with all professional registers, REPs Ireland require all registered exercise professionals to undertake a minimum amount of CPD every 2 years, to ensure that exercise professionals maintain their knowledge competence and skills.
As many exercise professionals will already undertake their own CPD, it is the intention for REPs Ireland to have that CPD endorsed, rather than direct exercise professionals to undertake a restricted CPD pathway.
The amount of REPs Ireland endorsed CPD is currently limited due to the register, and the requirement for CPD to be endorsed being a recent introduction. It is anticipated that the availability of REPs Ireland endorsed CPD will grow in availability to offer a wide range of opportunities and topics.
Provision has been made for this in the current CPD requirements that exercise professionals should meet. It is possible for exercise professionals to gain credit for a large part of the CPD requirement, through existing CPD they may undertake that is not REPs Ireland endorsed.
