REPs Up-date

Wednesday 21 June 2017

Web-site

From the 1st of October, the REPs web-site will only include education providers who have completed an Audit in 2017.  The web-site will also only include courses which have been audited and accredited, which, it is hoped will reduce confusion within the industry about what courses are REPs accredited.  Education providers offer a range of courses but it is important to ensure the industry is aware what courses will allow fitness professionals onto the REPs register.

Student Membership

Free membership will to be offered to newly qualifying students from REPs accredited education providers who have completed an Audit in 2017.  This will be a one year membership only.

Development of the Awards Category

It was agreed by Council to increase the categories currently being offered to include Pilates and Exercise for Health Specialist.

Beat to phrase

There is no absolute requirement for beat to phrase to gain access to the register, particularly where the candidate excels in all other elements of instruction.  Beat to phrase can be a requirement for higher marks and the education provider should demonstrate an ability to develop beat to phrase skills.

Minimum delivery and industry standards

The Council approved a minimum standard for all tutors who deliver on REPs approved programmes.  All Tutors should have a relevant tutor/pedagogy qualification and/or a level 7/8 degree which is specific to the content they are teaching.  For example, a Personal Training qualification is not sufficient to teach Fitness Instruction.  All REPS Ireland approved education providers should have a Head of Training who should have a minimum relevant degree and the necessary skills to liaise with auditors.
