I am delighted to announce that REPs Ireland will be running a conference in the Lyrath Estate Hotel in Kilkenny on Friday 17th November.  In partnership with the National Dairy Council, the title of the conference is 'Working with your Clients - Personal Training, Nutrition & Standards' which will be chaired by Joe O'Connor who is an experienced fitness consultant in the health, wellness, sport and fitness industries. Joe is a consultant on the hit show Ireland's Fittest Family and has lectured in the area of human athletic performance since 2006.  He is also founder of Nisus Fitness and

Guest Speaker Bio's

Karl Henry, Personal Trainer

Karl Henry is one of Ireland's most recognised and leading personal trainers in Ireland.  He founded Karl Henry Personal Training in 2004, and as well as doing personal training, Karl also specialises in corporate fitness and wellness.  Karl is the leading fitness expert on RTE 1's Operation Transformation and his weekly health column is featured in The Irish Independent every Monday.  Karl also writes for the Weekender Magazine every Saturday and contributes to numerous panel and talk shows in Ireland on the topic of health and fitness.

Brendan Egan, Associate Professor of Sport and Exercise Physiology, School of Health and Human Performance, Dublin City University

Brendan received his BSc Sport and Exercise Science from the University of Limerick in 2003, MSc Sport and Exercise Nutrition from Loughborough University in 2004, and PhD from Dublin City University in 2008, before completing two years of post-doctoral training with the Integrative Physiology group at the Karolinska Institute, Sweden.

He joined the faculty in the School of Public Health, Physiotherapy, and Sports Science at University College Dublin in 2011, where he spent five years before moving to Dublin City University to his current position as Associate Professor of Sport and Exercise Physiology. His current research investigates the molecular regulation of skeletal muscle function and adaptation across the lifespan with special interest in the synergy between nutrition and exercise interventions ranging from athletes to older adults. His research group performs human trials involving both acute and chronic interventions for outcomes around performance (physical and cognitive), recovery and adaptation e.g. muscle size and strength. Nutrients recently and presently under investigation include caffeine, creatine, omega-3 fatty acids, resveratrol, exogenous ketones, leucine, and protein hydrolysates. Outside of academia, he is co-founder of the recipe and nutrition resource FoodFlicker and is performance nutritionist to the Dublin hurling and Dublin Ladies football teams

Cliff Collins is currently the Programmes Director for EuropeActive

In the past few years he has been a member/observer at a number of EU Expert Groups including in good governance, the economic dimension of sport, human resources development and promoting health-enhancing physical activity and the European Skills Competencies, Qualifications, Occupations (ESCO) referencing for the fitness sector. He also represents EuropeActive at the DG SANTE Platform for Action for Diet and Physical Activity and at other high level groups

He has worked with EuropeActive for more than 9 years during which he has managed six major EU-funded projects including the European Week of Sport actions, the Action Learning for Children in Schools (ALCIS), promoting active and healthy ageing (PAHA) and a technical fitness qualification referencing project (SIQAF) for DG Employment. Current activities include managing EuropeActive's European Affairs Programme, and overseeing a major Erasmus+ project in anti-doping in recreation sport. In January 2018 2 new EU projects are launched covering education and training in fitness and promoting active and healthy lifestyles

Previously he owned three fitness centres in the UK and won five national awards for excellence for service delivery and in management. As a UK Government adviser he had a major influence on the development of the technical standards for exercise professionals, and for the quality management of fitness clubs.

Julian Berriman MA, BSc(Hons)Ost is the Director of EuropeActive's Professional Standards Committee 

Julian has responsibility for overseeing the development and review of EuropeActive's Sector Qualifications Framework. These educational standards have been developed in wide consultation with the European fitness industry and are the basis for the accreditation of training providers and individual instructors and trainers across Europe, as part of the European Register of Exercise Professionals. Mr Berriman has worked within the fitness sector in the UK for more than 20 years and has directed both an industry-leading training provider and awarding organisation. Within these roles he has written, delivered and managed vocational qualifications at all levels. As a result, he has built a wealth of experience in the design and implementation of structures and processes that deliver the highest quality of vocational education and professional development.
